The Coaching Portfolio of Evidence or Coaching Logbook serves as a crucial tool in both planning and evaluating your coaching sessions, as well as fulfilling one of the key assessment requirements for the GSA Levels Coaching Certificate.
After completing the theoretical components of the course, you are required to document the details of eight practical coaching sessions, drawing on the skills and knowledge gained during the course.
To successfully complete the GSA Coaching Practical, you need access to schools, sports clubs, or accredited training facilities where you can apply your coaching skills in real-world settings. Over a period of four weeks, you will participate in 20 hours of practical coaching. This hands-on experience is critical in developing and honing your coaching abilities.
Your logbook will document each of these coaching sessions, focusing on various outcomes such as overall planning, session design, integration of the GSA Coaching Methodology, and how you incorporate elements like character, team, and game development. Additionally, you will reflect on player inclusion, time management, and safety practices.
Each week, you will need to provide reflections on the activities completed and submit logbook entries that detail your coaching sessions. A staff member from the organization where your practical fieldwork is conducted will act as your supervisor. They will mentor you, sign off on your logbook entries, and provide constructive feedback at the end of each week, ensuring your continuous improvement and adherence to the GSA Coaches Code of Conduct.
Completing this logbook is not only a requirement for certification but also a valuable exercise in reflective practice, allowing you to critically evaluate and enhance your coaching effectiveness as you progress through the Level 1 course.
